A woman identified as Anabela Sabrina Olmedo (33) has been arrested and formally charged—with an order for pre-trial detention—in connection with the death of businessman Diego Antonio Osorio Peñaloza (46). Osorio Peñaloza maintained a friendship and business relationship with Martín Menem, the President of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies.
According to the judicial investigation, the incident fits a criminal pattern popularly known as the "Black Widow" (*viuda negra*) scheme, in which women make contact with men—primarily in bars and nightclubs in the Palermo neighborhood—and subsequently administer substances to them in order to rob their homes.
Judge Paula González, presiding over National Criminal and Correctional Court No. 40, ruled to formally charge Olmedo. The court found sufficient evidence to support the allegation that she caused Osorio Peñaloza's death by administering a substance, medication, or sedative at a dosage incompatible with his health, with the intent of stealing valuables from the victim's home.
The charge is *homicidio criminis causa* (homicide committed to facilitate another crime), a legal classification that carries a mandatory life sentence.
