Four members of the same family were arrested in Ohio, United States, accused of subjecting their own children and grandchildren to conditions of slavery and torture for years.
The arrested individuals were identified as Gary Siders Jr. (36), Gary Siders Sr. (73), Elizabeth Siders (33), and Christina Siders (67). Each faces 16 counts of child endangerment, a charge involving serious physical harm.
They appeared before a judge on July 2, who entered pleas of not guilty on behalf of all four. The court set bail at $300,000 for each defendant.
Vinton County Prosecutor William Archer clarified that the case is not being investigated as human trafficking, but rather as a severe instance of domestic violence.
Two decades of isolation
According to the investigation, the family lived for approximately 20 years without leaving any medical, school, or government records.
The local school district confirmed that none of the 16 children had ever been enrolled, while neighbors stated they had never seen the minors.
The Ohio Attorney General described the case as "the worst of his entire career" and maintained that, had there been no intervention that day, there was a high probability that one or more deaths would have occurred.
Authorities believe that the absolute isolation allowed the abuse to remain hidden for years.

The home has been shut down, and the minors have been placed in the temporary custody of the State.
