A photograph taken in 2008 for the charitable calendar of the Spanish newspaper Sport, created to support underprivileged families in Barcelona, has taken on historic significance over time. The image shows Lionel Messi, then 20 years old, posing with a six-month-old baby during a photo session: Lamine Yamal.
Nearly twenty years later, the two football stars are set to meet on the biggest stage. Messi and Yamal will enter the FIFA World Cup 2026 final as key players for their respective national teams, knowing that one of them will become world champion.
Originally created for a charitable initiative, the photograph has become one of the most iconic images in modern football history.
