Al menos doce personas murieron y otras ocho resultaron heridas, cuatro de ellas de gravedad, como consecuencia del incendio forestal que afecta a la provincia española de Almería.
At least 12 people were killed and eight others injured, four of them critically, in the devastating wildfire sweeping through Spain's southeastern province of Almería, where the fire's epicenter is located in the municipality of Los Gallardos, according to the latest official update released by regional authorities.
El epicentro se localiza en el municipio de Los Gallardos, según la información oficial más reciente difundida por las autoridades regionales.
La mayoría de las víctimas intentó escapar de las llamas en varios vehículos por un camino forestal de tierra situado en el término municipal de Bédar. El sendero, sin salida, terminó convirtiéndose en una trampa mortal.
Periodistas del Consorcio Internacional de Periodistas JMH recorrieron la zona afectada y constataron la magnitud de la devastación. En el lugar permanecen seis automóviles involucrados en la tragedia, de los cuales cuatro quedaron completamente calcinados y dos presentan graves daños por el fuego. También permanece una motocicleta destruida.
"Todo es olor a neumáticos quemados, un ambiente gris y desolador. Hay cuatro coches totalmente calcinados, una moto y otros dos vehículos quemados parcialmente. Uno de ellos tiene el volante a la derecha, lo que indica que probablemente pertenecía a un ciudadano británico. La buena noticia es que varios ocupantes, al verse rodeados por el fuego, abandonaron los vehículos y lograron salvar sus vidas huyendo a pie", declaró a JMH Timoteo, de 34 años, vecino de la zona.
De acuerdo con la última actualización ofrecida por el consejero de Presidencia, Interior, Diálogo Social y Simplificación Administrativa de la Junta de Andalucía, Antonio Sanz, el incendio deja por el momento al menos doce fallecidos, en su mayoría ciudadanos británicos y belgas.
Las autoridades informaron que cuatro de las víctimas mortales viajaban en un mismo automóvil. Aunque todo apunta a que se trata de ciudadanos extranjeros, sus identidades aún no han sido confirmadas oficialmente.
Los cuatro heridos más graves presentan quemaduras de diversa consideración y está previsto que sean trasladados en helicóptero desde el Hospital Universitario Torrecárdenas, de Almería, al Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío, en Sevilla, para recibir atención especializada.

Most of the victims attempted to flee the advancing flames by car along an unpaved forest road in the municipality of Bédar. The road, which ends in a dead end, became a deadly trap.
Journalists from the JMH International Consortium of Journalists visited the site and documented the aftermath. Six vehicles were found along the mountain road, including four completely burned-out cars, two partially destroyed vehicles and a motorcycle reduced to ashes.
"Everything smells of burned tires. The atmosphere is gray and desolate. There are four completely burned cars, a motorcycle and two other partially burned vehicles. One of them has a right-hand steering wheel, suggesting it likely belonged to a British driver. The good news is that several occupants abandoned their vehicles when they realized they were trapped by the flames and managed to escape on foot," Timoteo, 34, a local resident, told JMH.
According to the latest official figures released by Antonio Sanz, Andalusia's regional minister responsible for the Presidency, Health and Emergency Coordination, the wildfire has claimed at least 12 lives, most of them British and Belgian nationals.
Officials said four of the victims were traveling in the same vehicle. Although investigators believe they were foreign nationals, formal identification has not yet been completed.
The four most seriously injured victims suffered severe burns of varying degrees and are expected to be airlifted from Torrecárdenas University Hospital in Almería to Virgen del Rocío University Hospital in Seville for specialized treatment.

Bei dem verheerenden Waldbrand in der südspanischen Provinz Almería sind nach jüngsten offiziellen Angaben mindestens zwölf Menschen ums Leben gekommen. Acht weitere Personen wurden verletzt, vier von ihnen schwer. Das Epizentrum des Feuers befindet sich in der Gemeinde Los Gallardos.
Die meisten Opfer versuchten, den Flammen mit mehreren Fahrzeugen über einen unbefestigten Waldweg in der Gemeinde Bédar zu entkommen. Der Weg endet jedoch in einer Sackgasse und wurde für zahlreiche Menschen zur tödlichen Falle.
Reporter des Internationalen Journalistenkonsortiums JMH besuchten den Unglücksort und dokumentierten das Ausmaß der Zerstörung. Entlang des Bergwegs befinden sich sechs Fahrzeuge, darunter vier vollständig ausgebrannte Autos, zwei teilweise zerstörte Fahrzeuge sowie ein ausgebranntes Motorrad.
„Überall riecht es nach verbrannten Reifen. Die Landschaft wirkt grau und trostlos. Vier Autos sind vollständig ausgebrannt, dazu ein Motorrad und zwei weitere teilweise zerstörte Fahrzeuge. Eines davon hat das Lenkrad auf der rechten Seite, was darauf hindeutet, dass der Fahrer vermutlich aus Großbritannien stammte. Die gute Nachricht ist, dass mehrere Insassen ihre Fahrzeuge rechtzeitig verließen und zu Fuß fliehen konnten", sagte der 34-jährige Anwohner Timoteo gegenüber JMH.
Nach den jüngsten Angaben des Regionalministers Antonio Sanz kamen mindestens zwölf Menschen ums Leben, überwiegend britische und belgische Staatsangehörige.
Vier der Todesopfer befanden sich nach Behördenangaben im selben Fahrzeug. Obwohl alles darauf hindeutet, dass es sich um ausländische Staatsbürger handelt, wurden ihre Identitäten bislang noch nicht offiziell bestätigt.
Die vier Schwerverletzten erlitten Verbrennungen unterschiedlichen Ausmaßes und sollen per Hubschrauber vom Universitätskrankenhaus Torrecárdenas in Almería in das Universitätskrankenhaus Virgen del Rocío in Sevilla verlegt werden, wo sie spezialisierte medizinische Versorgung erhalten.
