Las autoridades de Estados Unidos identificaron a dos soldados del Ejército estadounidense que murieron en Jordania durante ataques con drones y misiles balísticos lanzados por Irán, en lo que representan las primeras bajas militares estadounidenses provocadas por fuego directo iraní desde el inicio del conflicto.

U.S. authorities have identified two American soldiers killed in Jordan during Iranian drone and ballistic missile attacks, marking the first U.S. military fatalities caused by direct Iranian fire since the beginning of the conflict.

El Departamento de Defensa informó que Tyler James Feehan, de 25 años y oriundo de Ewa Beach, Hawái, e Isabella Gonzales, de 19 años y residente de Carrollton, Texas, fallecieron durante los ataques registrados el viernes.

Feehan, quien ostentaba el rango de primer teniente, será ascendido póstumamente a capitán y recibirá la Estrella de Bronce, el Corazón Púrpura y la Insignia de Acción de Combate por su servicio.

Gonzales tenía el grado de soldado raso y estaba destinada en el 10.º Comando de Defensa Aérea y de Misiles del Ejército de Estados Unidos, con base en Ansbach, Alemania.

Con estas muertes, asciende a 17 el número de militares estadounidenses fallecidos durante la guerra con Irán, un conflicto desarrollado principalmente mediante operaciones aéreas y ataques con misiles y drones.

El Comando Central de Estados Unidos informó además que un tercer militar continúa desaparecido tras los ataques. El domingo confirmó el hallazgo de "restos no identificados", que están siendo sometidos a análisis forenses para determinar su identidad.

U.S. authorities have identified two American soldiers killed in Jordan during Iranian drone and ballistic missile attacks, marking the first U.S. military fatalities caused by direct Iranian fire since the beginning of the conflict.

The Department of Defense said First Lieutenant Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Private Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, were killed in Friday's attacks.

Feehan will be posthumously promoted to the rank of captain and awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart and the Combat Action Badge in recognition of his service.

Gonzales was assigned to the U.S. Army's 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command, based in Ansbach, Germany.

The deaths bring to 17 the number of U.S. service members killed during the war with Iran, a conflict fought largely through aerial operations, ballistic missiles and drone strikes.

U.S. Central Command also reported that a third service member remains missing following the attacks. On Sunday, the command announced that "unidentified remains" had been recovered and were undergoing forensic examination.
