Se trata del segundo caso registrado en apenas una semana en ese sector de la capital francesa. El cadáver fue localizado flotando cerca del Quai de Valmy alrededor de las 7:00 de la mañana de este sábado. Bomberos y efectivos de la Policía Fluvial realizaron la recuperación del cuerpo, que no portaba documentación que permitiera su identificación, según informaron fuentes policiales.
El Canal Saint-Martin fue habilitado parcialmente para actividades recreativas a mediados de junio, en el marco de las medidas adoptadas por las autoridades parisinas para hacer frente a la intensa ola de calor. Desde entonces, el baño está autorizado únicamente los domingos y en un tramo específicamente delimitado y supervisado.
Segundo caso en pocos días
El pasado 26 de junio, un hombre murió ahogado en el mismo canal, también en las inmediaciones del Quai de Valmy, tras ingresar al agua fuera de la zona autorizada para el baño, de acuerdo con la información oficial.
Las autoridades también advirtieron sobre el incremento de conductas de riesgo en el lugar. Según informó el funcionario parisino Emmanuel Grégoire, cerca de 50 jóvenes resultaron lesionados al lanzarse al canal desde pasarelas peatonales, una práctica expresamente prohibida.
El hallazgo de este sábado coincide con la apertura oficial de la temporada de baño supervisado en el río Sena. El Ayuntamiento de París inauguró tres zonas gratuitas y vigiladas para nadar: Bercy (distrito 12), Grenelle, próxima a la Torre Eiffel (distrito 15), y Bras Marie, en el centro histórico de la ciudad.
Más de 90 fallecidos por ahogamiento
El Consorcio Internacional de Periodistas JMH pudo dialogar con la ministra de Deportes y Juventud de Francia, Marina Ferrari, quien expresó su preocupación por el aumento de las muertes por ahogamiento durante la temporada estival.
Según indicó la funcionaria, desde el 19 de junio se han registrado más de 90 fallecimientos relacionados con incidentes en el agua, una cifra que calificó como "profundamente preocupante" y que refuerza el llamado de las autoridades a respetar las medidas de seguridad y las zonas habilitadas para el baño.
