GENEVA — JUNE 26 — JMH International Journalists Consortium — A cargo ship was attacked a few hours ago by Iran's Revolutionary Guard in the Strait of Hormuz, near the coast of Oman.
The United States confirmed the attack.
The vessel sustained serious damage but there were no injuries, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio once again rejected the idea of Iran charging ships for transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Oman stated that any system established jointly with Iran to manage maritime traffic would not involve charging fees; however, Iran was less categorical, noting that it would work with Oman "to define the future administration and maritime services in the Strait of Hormuz."
Oil prices rose again:
The price of Brent crude—considered the international benchmark for oil costs—hovered around $75 per barrel on Thursday, after briefly falling to $72 in the morning; that level was the closest it had come to the pre-conflict $70 mark in nearly four months.
