Police reported that the couple's teenage children called 911 after a domestic dispute at their Annandale home during divorce proceedings.

The shooting took place at the Fairfax residence in Annandale, Virginia, and police arrived at the scene after receiving a 911 call from one of their teenage children shortly after midnight. Justin Fairfax, 47, the Democratic lieutenant governor who served from 2018 to 2022 under Governor Ralph Northam, was the second African American to hold state office in Virginia since Reconstruction and was considered a rising star in state politics.
His two teenage children were in the house at the time of the murders, the police chief told BSF.
