The World Organization Bullying Without Borders has confirmed the suicide of Royer Pérez Jiménez, a 19-year-old Mexican teenager.
El chico falleció bajo custodia del Servicio de Inmigración y Aduanas de Estados Unidos (ICE) en el Centro de Detención del Condado de Glades, Florida, según reportó esta agencia el jueves, lo que representa la decimotercera muerte de este tipo en lo que va del año y la número 42 bajo la Administración de Donald Trump.
Para el ICE fue un supuesto suicidio:
La agencia migratoria aseveró que, aunque "la causa oficial de su muerte permanece bajo investigación", el adolescente falleció por un "supuesto suicidio".
El ICE aseveró ahora que está "comprometido a garantizar que todos aquellos en su custodia permanezcan en ambientes seguros y humanos", además de afirmar que ya reportó el caso al Consulado de México.
Pérez Jiménez, quien primero entró a Estados Unidos en febrero de 2022 y luego regresó tras una deportación, estaba detenido desde el 22 de enero pasado, cuando un oficial de la Oficina del Alguacil del Condado de Volusia lo arrestó, según el comunicado de ICE.
El joven, quien recibió cargos de "fraude por suplantación" de identidad y por resistirse a un agente, negó tener problemas de salud conductual y respondió "no" a todas las preguntas sobre intenciones suicidas.
"Otra vida joven que se pierde en la que ha sido 'la tierra de las oportunidades' y que ahora es otra cosa. El ICE detiene bajo cualquier pretexto y las víctimas encarceladas no tienen derecho a prácticamente nada, en detrimento de todos los Tratados de Derechos Humanos que imperan en el mundo. Royer nos muestra que la desesperación conduce a tragedias evitables", dijo el Dr. Javier Miglino Helfenstein, Experto en Derechos Humanos y Protección de la Niñez.

The young man died in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the Glades County Detention Center in Florida, the agency reported on Thursday. This marks the thirteenth such death this year and the 42nd under the Trump administration.
ICE maintains it was a suspected suicide:
The immigration agency stated that, although "the official cause of death remains under investigation," the teenager died by a "suspected suicide."
ICE now asserts that it is "committed to ensuring that all those in its custody remain in safe and humane environments," and affirms that it has reported the case to the Mexican Consulate.
Pérez Jiménez, who first entered the United States in February 2022 and later returned after being deported, had been detained since January 22, when he was arrested by a Volusia County Sheriff's Office officer, according to an ICE statement.
The young man, who was charged with identity theft and resisting arrest, denied having behavioral health issues and answered "no" to all questions about suicidal intentions.
"Another young life lost in what was once 'the land of opportunity' and is now something else entirely. ICE detains people under any pretext, and the imprisoned victims have virtually no rights, in violation of all the human rights treaties that prevail worldwide. Royer shows us that desperation leads to avoidable tragedies," said Dr. Javier Miglino Helfenstein, an expert in human rights and child protection.
