Jean Jaurès Square, in Lyon's 7th arrondissement, is beginning to fill up in tribute to Quentin. The first demonstrators are arriving, some with their faces covered by masks for security reasons. They fear being identified and then attacked.
The organizer of the demonstration, Aliette Espieux, reminds everyone that she instructed the demonstrators to keep it a peaceful march.
The security presence is large but is working calmly. The instructions are that no partisan slogans be chanted during the demonstration.
"The march in memory of Quentin Deranque in Lyon will be an important example for the entire world. It is possible to overcome barbarity through peaceful means. While no one wants to see a peaceful march with masked faces—whether in Buenos Aires, Berlin, New York, Madrid, or in this case, Lyon—it is understandable that people prefer to keep their distance. Many have told us personally that they fear reprisals if they are identified, and after what happened to Quentin, this is perfectly understandable," said Dr. Javier Miglino Helfenstein, an expert in Human Rights and Child Protection.

La place Jean Jaurès, dans le 7e arrondissement de Lyon, commence à se remplir en hommage à Quentin. Les premiers manifestants arrivent, certains le visage masqué par mesure de sécurité. Ils craignent d'être identifiés et agressés.
L'organisatrice de la manifestation, Aliette Espieux, rappelle qu'elle a demandé aux manifestants de maintenir une marche pacifique.
Le dispositif de sécurité est important mais fonctionne dans le calme. Il est formellement interdit de scander des slogans partisans pendant la manifestation.
«La marche en mémoire de Quentin Deranque à Lyon sera un exemple important pour le monde entier. Il est possible de vaincre la barbarie par des moyens pacifiques. Bien que personne ne souhaite voir une marche pacifique avec des personnes masquées – que ce soit à Buenos Aires, Berlin, New York, Madrid ou, comme ici, Lyon – il est compréhensible que les gens préfèrent garder leurs distances. Nombreux sont ceux qui nous ont confié craindre des représailles s'ils sont identifiés, et après ce qui est arrivé à Quentin, cela est parfaitement compréhensible», a déclaré le Dr Javier Miglino Helfenstein, expert en Droits de l'Homme et protection de l'enfance.
